Since PS5 was first released on November 12, 2020, it has been quite popular among game lovers, as PS5 is backward compatible with PS4 but provides better gaming experiences than PS4. And most PS4 games are available on PS5.
However, some users complain that their PS5 sounds very loud while running. Is it normal? Why is PS5 loud? How to reduce PS5 noise? Keep reading.
Is PS5 Loud Normal?
PS5 usually generates heat while working, especially after hours. To help the system cool down, PS5 is designed with a fan. PS5 will make some sound while the fan is running. It is common and normal, actually.
According to Sony, PS5 can run more quietly than PS4 because the cooling and power delivery systems are changed. However, if you find that your PS5 sounds louder than it used to be, there might be some problems.
Why Does PS5 Fan Noise Happen?
Usually, when your PS5 is overheating, the fan will run at a faster rate to cool the system more effectively, which leads to PS5 fan noise. Therefore, if your PS5 fan noise sounds loud and annoying, your PS5 might be overheating.
How to Reduce PS5 Fan Noise?
To reduce and avoid PS5 fan noise, a good way is to prevent your PS5 from being overheating. And here are some tips for you. Please follow them while playing your PS5 console.
- Never put your PS5 console on a carpet or rug with long fibres, especially while it is running.
- You should place your PS5 console in a ventilated area instead of a narrow or cramped place. Please make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the console are not obstructed. And there should be at least 10cm of free space around each side of your PS5 console.
- Clean the outside and inside of your PS5 regularly. You should not allow dust to build up in or around your console’s air. Once the air vents are stuck with dust, your PS5 system will get overheat easily.
As mentioned, dust can clog the fan and cause overheating issues, which might lead to PS5 fan noise, and even hardware malfunctions. So, you might need to clean your console sometimes, especially after playing the console for months.
Prepare soft cloths, strong isopropyl alcohol, and a compressed air duster before you start to clean your console. Then follow the steps below.
Step 1: Power off your PS5 console completely and disconnect all the cables. Continue with the next step after several minutes.
Step 2: Use the compressed air duster to blow out any dust and other items from the ports and the fan exhaust.
Step 3: Wipe the entire console carefully and gently with the cloth that is splashed with some alcohol. Then with it again with a dry cloth.
If necessary, you can also open the white case of your PS5 console to clean the inside of the console with your compressed air duster, but you need to be really careful to avoid damaging any small parts in your console.
