Have you gotten the “SD card writing speed slow” error on the DJI drones? This post from Partition Magic tells you why this error will occur and shows you how to solve the SD card speed slow DJI easily.

Why Will You Get the SD Card Speed Slow DJI Issue?

DJI is the most famous unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) brand in the world. It accounted for over 90% of the world’s consumer drone market as of June 2024. Its camera drone technology is widely used in the music, television, and film industries.

DJI offers many series including DJI Inspire, DJI Avata, DJI Neo, DJI Flip, DJI Mini, DJI Air, DJI Mavic, etc.

The DJI drones require SD cards to shoot pictures or videos. However, some people may encounter the “SD card writing speed slow” error when shooting videos. The main reason for this issue is that the SD card inserted into the DJI drones has a low write speed.

As we all know, some DJI drones support shooting videos at high resolutions. For example, DJI Mavic Air 1/2/3, DJI Air 3S, DJI Mini 4 Pro, and many other DJI drones support shooting 4K videos, DJI Mavic 3 supports shooting 5.1K videos, DJI Air 2S supports shooting 5.4K videos, and DJI Inspire 3 can shoot 8K videos.

Shooting high-resolution videos requires high-speed SD cards. Otherwise, the shooting will stop and you will get errors like SD card writing speed slow.

How to Fix the SD Card Speed Slow DJI Issue

The main solution to the SD card speed slow DJI is switching to a high-speed SD card. You need to choose a proper SD card for DJI and then format it for use.

How to Choose a Proper SD Card for DJI

What SD card is suitable for your DJI drones? According to the DJI websites, all DJI drones require UHS Speed Class 3 or higher microSD cards.

The UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) SD cards have a minimum sequential write speed of 30MB/s, which is the same as V30. Then, higher-speed SD cards include V60 and V90 SD cards.

In general, U3 or V30 SD cards can shoot 4K videos @30fps, V60 SD cards can shoot 4K videos @60fps or 8K videos at standard frame rates, and V90 SD cards can shoot 4K at 120fps or 8K videos at higher high frame rates. Click V10 vs V30 vs V60 vs V90 to know more.

When you choose an SD card for DJI, you need to also consider the capacity and durability factors.

Some DJI drones may have an SD card size limitation. For example, the SD card size limitation of DJI Mavic 3 Classic/DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mavic 3 Pro is 512GB, DJI FPV’s is 256GB, and Mavic 2 Pro/Mavic 2 Zoom’s is 128GB.

In addition, large capacity and high durability allow the SD card to work for a longer time. After all, the SD card will be overwritten when it is full. Unfortunately, high-resolution videos usually take a lot of space to store. As a result, SD cards of small capacity or bad durability will be easy to wear out.
