#1. Move to the Home Screen of PS5
You can navigate to the Home screen (Control Center) of PS5 by holding the PS Button. Then, you can see various tabs and icons on the screen like the Games, Media, Search icon, the Settings icon, etc. According to your demands, click on the corresponding tabs or icons.
For instance, you are allowed to switch games, monitor your downloads, check the list of your friends, play music, and do other things. To customize your control center options, press the PS Button > options button. With a single shortcut, you can turn on/off the console, supervise network status, see notifications, and access lots of other useful features.
#2. Turn off Controller or Put It on an Idle Timer
By default, the PS5 controller is set to never turn off. However, the fact is that you can turn off the controller manually by pressing the PS Button for 10 seconds at least. This operation helps you save battery. Alternatively, put the controller on an idle timer to save battery. Here’s how to do that.
Step 1: Click on the gear icon on the Home screen to open Settings.
Step 2: Tap on System > Power Saving.
Step 3: Choose an option from the drop-down menu of Set Time Until Controllers Turn Off. The options include After 10 minutes, After 30 minutes, After 60 minutes, and Don’t turn off.
#3. Transfer PS4 Saves to PS5
Thanks to the backward compatibility of PS5, you can play PS4 games on PS5. Nevertheless, you are required to transfer games to PS5 first. As PS5 won’t sync your saves automatically like Xbox Series X, you need to transfer PS4 saves to PS5 by yourself.
How to do that? Well, you have three options. You can transfer PS4 data via the Internet, PlayStation Plus, and a USB flash drive. To get detailed information, read this post: How to Transfer PS4 Data to PS5 [Three Ways Included]
#4. Upgrade Your Game to the PS5 Version
Thanks to the Game Boost feature of Sony, games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Doom Eternal, and others, offer free PS5 upgrades if you have gotten their PS4 versions. The resolution and frame rate of the game is better in the PS5 version, so it looks more stunning.
Even so, not all PS4 games have PS5 upgrades. In this case, simply play PS4 games on PS5.
This post lists 60+ PS4 Games with PS5 Upgrades (Available Now & Upcoming).
#5. Download and Install PS5 Exclusive Games
There are some games exclusive to PS5. It means that you can’t play them on other game consoles. Once you buy a PS5 console, download and install these games and then enjoy them. For instance, you can install games like Deathloop, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, etc.
Since Sony decided to put its games on other platforms, more and more games aren’t PS5 exclusive anymore. Games such as God of War, Spider-Man, and the Last of Us have come to PCs already. There are clues indicating other games like Returnal, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne, and God of War Ragnarok will launch on PC in the near future.
#6: Set up Remote Play
The Remote Play feature of PS5 console allows you to stream games from your console to a phone, tablet, or computer. Besides, you can control your PS5 remotely via these devices. For instance, you are able to manage your profile, chat with friends, interact with your PS5 by buying and downloading or updating games, manage your storage, and even launch games if the console is in standby mode.
To use the feature, you need to set up it. Here’s how to do that.
Step 1: Download the PlayStation Remote Play app on devices like Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS.
Step 2: On the PS5 console, tap Settings > System > Remote Play.
Step 3: Highlight the Enable Remote Play option and then press X to toggle on it.
Step 4: Launch the Remote Play app on your device, and then find and connect to PS5.
If you want to stream PS4 games to PS5 via Remote Play, make sure that two consoles are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. You may encounter input lag if the network speed is slow. It is recommended to use a wired connection for the best results. Then follow the given steps to finish the process.
