Changes and improvements in KB5046733

Like other Windows updates, KB5046733 also contains some changes and improvements, aiming to improve user experiences. This section collects all the changes and improvements included in the update KB5046733.

The more simplified system tray with a shortened form date/time beginning rolling out with Build 22635.4010 is being temporarily disabled to address a few issues.

On KB5046733, when you launch File Explorer folders from outside of File Explorer, they will open in a new tab by default if you have an existing File Explorer window open. If you prefer opening them in a new window, change it in the File Explorer folder options under General > Browse Folders.

Tips:
To restore to the legacy experience on File Explorer, disable opening external folders in a new tab by heading to File Explorer > Folder Options > General, unchecking the “Open desktop folders and external folders links in new tab” option, and clicking Apply > OK to execute the operation.

When “Restore previous folder windows at logon” is enabled in File Explorer, Microsoft will restore all the extra tabs you opened before in each File Explorer window. If you turn on the “Automatically save my restartable apps and restart them when I sign back in” option, the “Restore previous folder windows at logon” option will be enabled by automation.

Besides, you will be able to pick up where you left off. The exact situation depends on how you work with your tabs in File Explorer. For instance, if you power off or restart the computer with three tabs open in the File Explorer window, it will restore the three tabs and single or multiple windows after you open File Explorer again.

If you don’t back up your folders yet, File Explorer sometimes displays a reminder to “start backup”. These warnings don’t disappear unless you open Settings and turn them off. Fortunately, Microsoft is reducing the number of clicks it takes to stop these nagging.

When browsing files through the OneDrive folder in File Explorer, now you can click the Start backup reminder to find the option to turn it off. To suspend or turn off OneDrive backup alerts, right-click the Start OneDrive symbol and either pause or dismiss it completely.
